G20 Presidency Will Uplift South Africa’s Economy Globally
“South Africa should leverage the World Economic Forum to highlight its work in preparation for its G20 Presidency. These two forums are interconnected, so South Africa must use the World Economic Forum to emphasise its efforts under the G20 presidency.” – Xhanti Payi, South Africa’s senior economist. A coup de grâce for the Rainbow Nation to host the world’s top 20 powerhouses Fresh from leading the trailblazing Government of National Unity (GNU) delegation to the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, President Cyril Ramaphosa now faces the critical mission of elevating South Africa’s global economic standing as the country prepares to host the G20 Summit. Rwanda: My New Home
Rwanda, in central Africa, is my new home. After seven years living in China, and thoroughly enjoying being there, I am now back in Africa. Between the two countries I spent six months in South Africa, at the mysterious place named McDougall’s Bay. On the first Friday I was in Rwanda, my wife Kathy and I found our way to the Nyamata Genocide Memorial. We were there towards the end of the afternoon. Singing, more mournful, soulful and grateful than I had ever heard before, came from a Catholic church about 40 metres away. We went inside the church to find people with their arms raised high and singing with…

From Loss to Rebirth
Transitions are the spaces between what was and what will be. They mark the moments when the known world shifts, leaving behind familiar certainties and ushering in the unexplored. These shifts—whether born of political upheaval, personal loss, or societal decay—carry the weight of transformation, often painful but always revealing. They remind us of that change, though unsettling, is the thread that binds all aspects of life, weaving together the personal and the collective, the past and the future. The transformation of places and people often reflect deeper emotional and spiritual currents. Streets that once thrived with life can grow silent, echoing the toll of political failures and social fractures. Physical…

Transitions: The Art of Becoming
Life rarely announces its changes. They slip in quietly, like a soft breeze on a still day, unsettling the leaves just enough to remind you that nothing stays the same. There is no grand arrival of clarity, no perfect moment where everything falls into place. Change comes when it wants, and more often than not, it feels like being caught in a storm without shelter. I know this because I’ve lived it; those moments where the ground beneath you shifts, where the familiar dissolves into uncertainty. Transitions have been the backdrop of my life, from leaving places I called home to letting go of people I thought I’d always have.…

The Power of Mentorship
One speech can ignite a flame, and one mentor can change a destiny. For me, a few powerful words from a professional town and regional planner reshaped my life’s trajectory. I grew up in a small, rural village where poverty was an ever-present shadow. My family struggled financially, and often, I went to school without basic necessities. I remember waking early each morning to walk many kilometres to fetch water so I could bathe and arrive at school looking like my peers from better-off backgrounds. Despite these challenges, I was determined to break free from the cycle of poverty that had defined my family’s existence. At Salani Primary School, I…

The Things I Hate About You
I hate how I’ve written you more poems than anyone I’ve ever met in my human existence. I hate how, I hate that, I hate you when we both know that I couldn’t hate you. I hate that we both know that hate isn’t the main ingredient in this recipe but it feels so much more safer to scream I hate you than to say I love you. And yes I do and you do too, Hate in the way our eyes meet when we are about to make bad decisions with our bodies. Hate in the way we throw back-and-forth speech with harsh tones and unfiltered truths about each…
